Pre-order Meta Quest 3
Meta Quest 3 pre-orders are now live, following Meta's recent Connect conference keynote. The $499.99 / £479.99 headset is already available to order at Best Buy in the US and with Amazon in the UK.It's also worth noting that for a limited time, pre-orders of the Quest 3 get you a free copy of Asgard's Wrath 2 when it launches in December. On top of that, if you pre-order the 512GB SKU instead, you'll get a free six-month trial of Meta Quest+, the new digital game subscription service that will net you two free games each month.
The next generation VR headset which launches on October 10 boasts double the processing power of its predecessor, with visual resolution upped by 30%. However, Meta is putting more investment into mixed reality content with this platform, despite its high-end Meta Quest Pro headset not performing quite as well as it'd hoped. Mark Zuckerberg emphasized that this new wave of hardware would "blend the physical and digital worlds together", and seemed to double down on the Metaverse concepts we'd heard about before.
But what does this mean for gaming? Well, the Meta Quest 3 uses dual RGB cameras to offer up high-quality imagery passed through the lens of the headset itself, with a reported 4K+ display offering "ultra-realistic games". You can, of course, play all of Meta Quest 2's games in full VR, but it looks as though Quest 3 will use augmented reality to blend fully immersive content into your physical space if you want it to. Beyond that, the Quest 3 also has a new 3D sound system and TruTouch haptic controls.
