Who/ what is Moody Center named after? Moody Foundation is a Galveston-based charitable group. The arena is named Moody Center in honor of a $130 million gift from the Moody Foundation.

More than just a catchy name

So the first university students in Austin got to school via trolleys dragged by teams of horses. That method of locomotion gave rise to the name The Drag, which hugs Guadalupe Street just west of the university campus.

This roadway is named after the nearby Slaughter Creek, which gets its namesake from pioneer Stephen F. Slaughter. One of the earliest white settlers in what is now Travis County, Mr. Slaughter had received a large grant of land in the south Austin area in 1835.
